Bekasi, Depok want to join Jakarta - Tue, August 27 2019 - Jakarta Post

A resident of satellite city Bekasi, Randa Gusti, says he spends more time in the nation’s capital for work and leisure than other areas in West Java — Bekasi’s administrative region.Known as an industrial center, Bekasi is around 25 kilometers from Jakarta and 130 km from the West Java capital of Bandung.Randa believes the city has been growing on its own without much help from the provincial administration. So when an idea emerged on establishing a new province called “Greater Bogor”, he quickly leapt into the discussion, saying it was better for Bekasi to merge with Jakarta instead.“It would be easier to integrate public transportation, because many Bekasi people work in Jakarta like me,” said the 29-year-old, adding that it was also more reasonable since Bekasi was closer to Jakarta than Bogor.Wahyu Hadi Chusnanto also s...

Depok Immigration Office Website Hacked for 12 Hours - En Tempo.co

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The official website of the Depok City Class II Immigration Office was attacked by hackers. The attack lasted for 12 hours, but the Immigration Office said the incident did not affect service.

"Since morning, when we were about to open at 08:00, the network was unavailable," Depok Immigration Office spokesman, Newin Budiyanto, said on Monday, August 19.

The hackers call themselves the Riau Cyber Security. They replaced the website's front page with white writings and a picture of an eagle on a black background.

The website has returned to normal as of 18:00 the same day.

Newin said immigration officers were unable to login to the local website. "Our passwords did not work," he said.

He added that, technically, none of the immigration services were affected, and work proceeded as usual. The public may have had difficulties when opening the website to look for information, such as visa requirements, he said.

According to Newin, this was the third attack by hackers against the Depok Immigration Office. So far the purpose of hacking is unknown.

Luckily, the data stored on the server are not lost. "The security of our data cannot be destroyed," he said.

Depok City Administration to Reward Residents for Capturing Criminals - Indonesia Expat

The prevalence of robberies and criminal acts in Depok city has led the Depok Jaya administrative office to start rewarding residents who record and report criminal activities.

A crime-catching competition will be held for residents of Pancoran Mas, Depok.

Security personnel of community unit (RW) 03, Syarifuddin, stated that a prize of Rp500,000 (US$35.24) will be rewarded to those who report criminal activities to the residents of the village.

“We have had enough, this area always witnesses robberies here and there,” Syarifuddin said. He further added that criminal activities occur about every week in the area. The crimes range from street robberies to house invasions. However, the prize money will only be rewarded to those who successfully report a crime with strong evidence.

Residents have denied any claims of distrust towards the authorities or the police; they simply wish to ease and assist the police in catching criminals. The money had also been collected by the local residents.

Depok residents challenged to catch thieves in residential area - The Jakarta Post - Jakarta Post

Depok residents challenged to catch thieves in residential area - The Jakarta Post - Jakarta Post

Rampant thievery and robbery in a residential area in Pancoran Mas district in Depok, West Java, has prompted officers of community unit (RW) 03 in Depok Jaya subdistrict to challenge people to catch the culprits in the act.

RW 03 security officer Syarifuddin said anyone who caught a thief would be rewarded Rp 500,000 (US$35) as a token of appreciation. The reward is aimed at raising people’s awareness and willingness to maintain security.

“We are furious. Thievery and robbery often occur here. A while ago, it happened once in a week for a whole month,” Syarifuddin, who is also head of neighborhood unit (RT) 01 , said, as reported by tempo.co.

He went on to say that such crime occurred in various places and involved various objects. Sometimes the thieves break into empty houses, other times the thieves rob mobile phones or other valuable things from passersby.

Through the challenge, Syafruddin added, the residents wanted to help the police to keep the area safe. The reward money is allocated from the RW’s petty cash fund.

“We’re helping the police. If someone catches a culprit, we will immediately take them to the police,” he said.

Officers of RW 03 have put up banners on Jl. Belimbing and Jl. Pepaya to announce the challenge.

To win the prize, not only does someone need to catch a thief or robber, they should also bring along the evidence. (vla)

Rampant Criminality, Depok Makes Capturing Robbers a Contest - En Tempo.co

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The rampant cases of robberies and criminal acts haunting residents of Depok City spurred a contest held by locals upon capturing criminals, which is held by the Depok Jaya village office (Kelurahan), Pancoranmas, Depok,

Security personnel of community unit (RW) 03, Syarifuddin, said the competition will fight for prize money of Rp500,000 (roughly USD35.24). He said that this was done to increase the awareness of local residents on the pressing matter.

“We have had enough, this area always witnesses robberies here and there,” said Syarifuddin to Tempo on Monday, August 12.

The criminal activities in this area, he said, can happen up to once every week within one month. The crimes varied from street robberies to house invasions. The prize money is only eligible for those who successfully capture a criminal accompanied by strong evidence.

Syarifuddin greatly denies that the contest was held to represent their distrust against local police in Depok but rather to quicken the process of handing a captured criminal to the police. The money participants will compete for, come from collective funds from local residents.

'Religious harmony' versus 'religious city' draft bylaws in Depok - Jakarta Post

'Religious harmony' versus 'religious city' draft bylaws in Depok - Jakarta Post

The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) faction on Depok city council in West Java has countered a draft “religious city” bylaw proposed by the mayor, which would, among other things, regulate how people should dress, with a proposal of its own. Council speaker Hendrik Tangke Allo of the PDI-P said that his party opposed the draft religious city bylaw and instead offered a draft bylaw guaranteeing freedom of religion and religious harmony.  “The city administration should encourage interaction and dialogue between religious, ethnicities, races and other identity-based groups, to safeguard tolerance and harmony among religious followers,” Hendrik said recently. He said Depok was a developing and multifaceted city, therefore it should protect religious freedom and tolerance. “The PDI-P is pushing this bylaw not as an alternative to...
